Professor Olaf Kruse, director of the Center for Biotechnology at Bielefeld University and SUN-PERFORM partner, presented the project at the International Conference on Algal Biomass, Biofuels and Bioproducts (AlgalBBB 2025) where he was co-chair. Recognised as one of the main international gatherings in the field, the conference was attended by researchers, innovators, and industry experts to exchange knowledge on algae-based solutions for energy, food, and sustainable products.

From 16 to 18 June 2025, the algae community converged in Arizona, USA, for a programme spanning metabolic engineering, synthetic biology, photobioreactor design, and systems biology. As co-chair, Professor Kruse played a key role in shaping the scientific agenda and fostering discussions on how algae research can contribute to addressing global sustainability challenges.
For SUN-PERFORM, presence at such a major event was not just about visibility — it was an opportunity for collaboration and helps align the project’s efforts with developments across the global research landscape.
